Who are you?
I’m Bryan Kam. I live in London. I’m raising my daughter Eva, and I write philosophy.
My work navigates between abstract thought and lived experience, drawing on Eastern and Western traditions, the sciences, and ordinary life. The main project is a book called Neither/Nor — a study of how certain revolutionary thinkers, among them Darwin, Wittgenstein, and the Buddha, lived out the very oscillation their work describes.
Alongside it: the Clerestory podcast, a book club, a writing group, philosophical events in London, and Liminal Learning, which brings these ideas into practice with young people.
This work runs outside academia and outside the corporate world. It’s sustained by readers and patrons — you can find out more about that, and about why, here.
You can also follow me on Twitter or Mastodon.
What is Clerestory?
A “clerestory” is a row of windows set above eye level — in Gothic architecture, the band of light that runs along the upper wall of a nave. It's the name of the podcast and this publication because that's what philosophy, at its best, does: it lets in light from an unexpected angle.
Why subscribe?
To receive the writing when it arrives. The newsletter is free and will remain so. If you find it worthwhile over time, you're welcome to become a patron of the work — but there's no obligation, and no content is gated.
