Podcast and Salons
I am hosting salons on networked thought and consciousness, and I also gave a Thomas Kuhn lecture.
Hello!
I hope this finds you well. I have a few announcements to make this week.
On Collaboration
This Friday I’m hosting a salon with Isabela Granic, on Networked Minds: The History and Future of Collaboration.
The discussion will take place on 5 June 2021 at 9pm London time. This salon follows on the energetic success of the previous salon on the same topic. We will be doing a deeper dive on creative duos, and on the history and future of collaborations.
In short, we will think together about how best to think together. Details and tickets here.
On Objectivity
In other news, I have recently begun a podcast in which I read things I like aloud — usually a piece of poetry and a piece of prose, with my musings in between. So far I’ve recorded six brief episodes. Click here to listen.
This week, I gave a Thomas Kuhn lecture from 1973, contained in his 1977 collection The Essential Tension. The lecture is called “Objectivity, Value Judgment, and Theory Choice.” It represents his main defense against the charges of relativism that followed in the wake of the publication of The Structure of Scientific Revolutions (1962).
Kuhn writes with incredible eloquence. You can listen to my rendition of it here (and read my gargantuan Structure thread here.)
Like my blog, the podcast is called Clerestory. I wrote about my idea behind the podcast here.
On Consciousness
I’m also thrilled to announce that I will be hosting another salon later this month, on Perception, Selfhood, and Consciousness.
This is a discussion with Anil Seth, professor of cognitive and computational neuroscience at the University of Sussex, co-director of the Sackler Centre for Consciousness Science, and author of the upcoming book Being You – A New Science of Consciousness.
The discussion will take place on Zoom, at 8pm on Wednesday 30th June. Details and tickets here.
On Feelings
Finally, I wrote a blog post last week called The Syntax of Feelings which you might like.
I hope you are doing well. I would love to hear from you. 😊
All best,
Bryan
